A New Season of Hope

There is something about July that invites reflection.
Summer has settled into its familiar rhythm, and many of us begin looking ahead. We think about what we hope the coming months will hold—for ourselves and for the people we love. While January is often associated with fresh starts, there is something equally meaningful about beginning again in the middle of the year.
At NAMI Wayne and Holmes Counties, July also marks the beginning of a new fiscal year. Behind the scenes, we turn the page to a new chapter filled with plans, goals, and opportunities to serve. But before we rush ahead, it feels important to pause and recognize something that often goes unnoticed.
Recovery is often made up of ordinary moments that become extraordinary when we look back on them. Hope reveals itself every day. Sometimes it is the courage of someone attending a support group for the very first time. Other times it is the quiet relief of a family member who realizes they no longer have to navigate their journey alone. We see it in volunteers who generously give their time to listen without judgment, staff members who answer difficult phone calls with compassion, and community partners who understand that mental health is health. These moments may seem ordinary on their own, but together they remind us that recovery is possible and that no one has to face life's challenges alone.
As we reflect on the past year, we are grateful for every individual who has walked alongside us. To those who attended a class, volunteered at an event, made a donation, shared their story, referred a friend, advocated for mental health, or simply offered encouragement—thank you. Your support has strengthened our mission in ways that statistics alone can never capture.
The need for mental health support continues to grow, and so does our commitment. In the coming year, we will continue providing free support groups, educational programs, recovery services through MOCA House, community outreach, and advocacy for individuals and families throughout Wayne and Holmes Counties. We know the work is not finished, but we also know we are stronger because we do it together.
As you enjoy the days of summer, we encourage you to extend the same compassion to yourself that you so often give to others. Summer has a way of reminding us to slow down—to linger over a cup of coffee on the porch, spend time in the garden, share a meal with family or friends, or simply enjoy a quiet evening as the sun sets. These simple moments of rest and connection are not distractions from life; they are part of living well. However you choose to spend this season, we hope you'll make room for kindness, for gratitude, and for the people who remind you that you never have to walk life's journey alone.
A new season is before us. We cannot predict everything it will bring, but we can choose how we meet it—with kindness, with resilience, and with hope.
Thank you for being part of the NAMI family. We look forward to walking this next chapter with you.
Every moment of hope has the power to change a life.
