Our Philosophy on  Mental Health

NAMI Wayne and Holmes Counties believes recovery is possible. We’re committed to providing education and fostering group discussion of recovery strategies in a safe environment.

What is Recovery?

Recovery is a process of restoring or developing a positive and meaningful sense of identity apart from one’s condition and then rebuilding one’s life despite, or within, the limitations imposed by that condition. Recovery is both a goal and a lifestyle that supports this goal; it’s a personal journey and varies from person to person.

Groups & Activities

There are different groups and activities taking place daily.

They include:

  • Art classes
  • Therapy dog visits
  • Chat with a cop
  • Support groups: NAMI connections, DBSA (Depression Bipolar Support Alliance), Schizophrenia & Schizoaffective group, Men/Women in Recovery, plus more
  • Health & Wellness Programs
  • Games & puzzles

DBSA Support Groups

DBSA provides a safe space for people to share their mental health journeys.  We believe giving space to someone living with a mental health condition is deeply humanizing because it shows a mood disorder is only one aspect of a person.

Join us for this peer-based support group for people living with mood disorders.  We are here to assist, encourage and enable each other in helping ourselves.  At our meetings, people are able to share experiences, personal feelings, information, and strategies for living successfully with mood disorders.

Our DBSA groups happen weekly on Monday at 1:00 pm in-person

and 5:00 pm on zoom.

Winning Against Relapse (WRAP) Support Group meets Fridays at 2:00 pm.

Writing for Wellness

One way to deal with any overwhelming emotion is to find a healthy outlet in which to express yourself, which makes journaling or writing a helpful tool in managing your mental health.

It can manage anxiety, reduce stress and provide an opportunity for positive self-talk and identifying negative thoughts and behaviors.

Writing for Wellness meets the first and third Thursday of each month from 6:00 - 7:30 pm at MOCA House.

Join the group as they critique various writings and books, create stories, prose and poems.
